Queensland Smart Home Initiative
The Queensland Smart Home Initiative ‘QSHI’ is a project set up by a consortium of corporate and community organisations, universities and government bodies to educate the community and encourage the adoption of assistive technology for older people, people with special or ongoing needs, and people managing chronic conditions.
The aim of the Queensland Smart Home Initiative is to advance the adoption of intelligent assistive technologies and smart homes, to encourage and support independent living, access to care, improved outcomes and reduced costs. The QSHI is particularly interested in the benefits of using assistive technology, rather than the development of new devices.
QSHI phase I was launched in 2007 by the former minister for health the Hon. Stephen Robertson. The site was located at the Blue Care Kenmore retirement living complex and saw hundreds of industry professionals visit to experience assistive technology first hand. After one year of operation the site was closed with the intention of moving the QSHI to a more central location that would encourage more of the general public and industry related students to visit.

The QSHI aims to advance the adoption of intelligent assistive technologies, with the focus on supporting independent living, providing greater access to care, improving outcomes and reducing costs.
Visitors are welcome to visit the QSHI Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, and Saturday 9am to 2pm with tours and training available by appointment.
